So I bet you're wondering, "Why should this guy write a book?"

Maybe you're thinking, "What qualifies him?"

I would be skeptical too.  But I know me better than that.  And truthfully, you don't.  So, on the outside chance you are curious about me, let me tell you who I am.

First and foremost, I wrote this book because that's what writers do.  They write.  Second, I wrote this book because it was designed as a teaching tool for my oldest son, who actually aided me with the research that went into the book.  The lessons we learned by doing this work together, well, actually, they are explained in the book.  Ironically, that is one of the subjects covered.  How to set goals, what it means to accomplish goals, and how having goals will help you to become the person you wish to be.

As a parent, as any of you may be, a primary concern for your children is whether or not you are teaching them what is important for you to teach them. This book is the result of me teaching my son those things that are important for me to teach to him.  What are those things?  I'm actually quite glad to answer that.

Happiness.  I know this sounds vague, but it's true.  I know it sounds altruistic, but I have now found that it is obtainable.  Those who don't have it covet it, those who do have it, guard it.

Ultimately, I do not want more for my son than for him to find his happiness.  Another word might be success. Success has been described as a constant striving to obtain a worthwhile goal.  I believe in this definition.  With the proper education (from the Latin: to draw out), a worthwhile goal can be anything, so long as the correct criteria are applied.  The correct criteria?  You must be in the business of doing something for other people.

My goal is to teach my son the best way to help other people.  In my years teaching (as a volunteer, not yet a career teacher), as a public speaker (I have been working the microphone since 1982), as a manager of businesses, as a landlord, as a computer network supervisor, and as a father and husband, I have always tried to deliver just a little more than was expected of me.  I must admit that in the arena of family, there are a few witnesses who may say I come up short, but I am working on that.  I am striving to obtain that goal.  That makes me a success.

It may not be enough, however, for me as a writer (my writing experience includes publishing my first book in 1996, as the movie critic for the county newspaper for 4 years, more than a hundred songs in 20 years and writing and publishing an internationally known newsletter in the years before email and blogging) my success truly depends upon putting my education to the pen. It is time for me to put this subject in a book.

Now, you may still wonder if what we have to say on the subject of obtaining wealth and happiness is right for you.  Well, we made that decision easy, too.  If you buy a chapter, and don't believe the message is true, don't believe it can work for you, or simply don't believe, that's ok.  As George Lopez says, "We don't judge."  Just follow our simple instructions on making the return, and we will gladly refund your money.  All we ask is that you give it seven days before you ask.

I'm glad we had this little time together.  I'm delighted that you are checking into my book.  It means you are looking for something better, and that makes you a success already.

I would like to warn you, there truly aren't any specific answers to obtaining wealth in any place in this book.  There are some generic business applications, and there is some straight-forward advice on how to start and run a business, but you won't find any magic cross reference guide that says, "men between the ages of 27.5 and 36.5 with blond hair and green eyes should buy a fast hamburger franchise."  What you may find instead is a guide to find that thing that has been missing in your life.  And once you find that thing, you'll know what to do with it.  You will use it for the constant striving for the obtainment of a worthwhile goal of helping other people in some way that works for you.

The last line in the Introduction says, "I would wish you luck, but that has nothing to do with it."
